Brims Construction was appointed in August 2016 by Colmans Caterers to transform the town’s Sea Road bandstand and public toilets, known locally as ‘Gandhi’s Temple’, into a new family seafood restaurant, cocktail bar and takeaway. The bandstand on South Shields seafront was constructed in the late 1920’s as a community seating shelter and has stood as a key landmark structure for people using the sands. The new two-storey building has a steel frame construction with a mix of masonry and render finish. The first floor restaurant has feature curtain walling which provides panoramic views of the coastline. Externally block paving has been installed to the perimeter of the building and permeable block paving has been added to the raised seating areas on either side of the building.
