The Durham Centre was a conversion of an existing industrial unit into a high quality conference and training centre providing bespoke facilities for the meetings, community groups and a place of worship for the Emmanuel Church, Durham. The project comprised of providing a new glass entrance with welcoming reception area, kitchen, meeting areas, five meeting rooms, large state of the art 350 seat auditorium, fully equipped crèche facilities and cutting edge conferencing equipment with Wi-Fi broadband access throughout. A number of environmental considerations were implemented on the project by ourselves including the introduction of additional windows to provide natural light and ventilation, the use of local suppliers wherever possible, altering room heights wherever possible to standard plasterboard sizes reducing waste, ensuring all timber was from a sustainable source and the use of high efficiency condensing boilers, heat recovery units and permeable surfaces to the new external car parks.
