Hotel Indigo

Durham

A four-star boutique 83-bedroom hotel
featuring an 88-cover Marco Pierre White Steakhouse

Brims Construction was appointed in November 2016 by Elvet Developments Ltd to undertake the multi-million pound conversion of the historic Grade II listed ‘Old Shire Hall’ on Old Elvet in Durham into an IHG Hotel Indigo. The former council headquarters which has stood vacant since 2012 has now been transformed into a four-star, boutique 83-bedroom hotel featuring an 88-cover Marco Pierre White Steakhouse, Rotunda Cocktail Bar & Lounge and Tinderbox Espresso Emporium coffee house. Whilst the hotel has a contemporary feel the historical features of the building still shine through. The hotel’s bedrooms have been styled in either an academic or cathedral theme in a bid to reflect Durham’s history. Many legacy items of furniture and fittings from the council chambers have been re-used and adapted along with bespoke items and lighting to create a grandeur and opulence to the hotel’s interior.
