Brims Construction were successfully appointed by Middlesbrough Development Company, to carry out the redevelopment of the former Tolesby Shops in Acklam, Middlesbrough. The scheme involved the transformation of a disused site into a ground floor retail facility and 24nr mixed one- and two-bedroom affordable apartments, the retail space provides a much-needed commercial boost to the area. The works involved the site preparation, followed by the construction of the four-storey building, on a brownfield site, located quite centrally within a well-established residential area of Tolesby. The Newbridge Court site was occupied by six small shops and a car repair garage, which were subsequently demolished. The site is flat and approximately 0.3ha in size.

The development included the installation of all associated hard and soft landscaping, including car parking and street lighting. The ground floor construction comprised of a ground floor podium, with shuttered concrete first floor. The upper floors comprise of pre-cast concrete planks. The internal walls comprise a mixture of concrete blocks and metal stud partitions, and the flat roofs are covered in single ply membrane. The external walls to the third floor are faced with composite cladding. The retail units were be constructed to a shell / core level only.
