Brims Construction was appointed by Sovereign Centros in November 2022 under a Design and Build Contract to carry out the demolition of the existing Toys R Us (Unit 6) and construction of three new retail sheet units. The works involved a reduced level dig, piling, drainage incorporating Swale as part of the SUDS features, concrete, foundations, structural steel erections, roof / wall cladding, blockwork, internal partitions, glazing, concrete floor slab, mechanical & electrical installations, and the installation of mezzanine floors to each of the units. High quality hard landscaping and paving features and the coordination of resurfacing the entire retail car park including cycle bay provision together with the installation of 12 new 350kW fast electric chargers on site.
A trio of furniture stores are now in the middle of completing fit-outs and opening at the plot, after 10-year leases were signed with Natuzzi, a company specialising in Italian luxury and contemporary furniture; they have taken the largest 10,000 sq. ft unit. The other units are being occupied by Dreams, the bed and mattress company and NCF Living, who specialise in beds, sofas and dining. The new units are a modern and contemporary design, featuring double height windows to the front and side.
“Brims Construction came to the scheme at pre-construction stage with a number of innovative and value engineering options that helped us achieve cost viability to develop the scheme, which is the first of a number of benchmark projects for the Metrocentre Retail Park.
Their can do and positive attitude translated into the construction phase with an exemplar team delivering the scheme to an high standard and to very demanding timescales within a live retail park setting and with adjoining tenants insitu. A number of additional works, such as a phased resurfacing the entire public facing car park, were also undertaken in a professional and timely manner.”
