Security Search Area – Brims Construction were appointed to deliver the refurbishment of the existing Security Search Area and balcony approach on Level 2 of the terminal building at Newcastle Airport. The works were phased and staged to enable the search area to continue in operation throughout the duration of the works, avoiding peak times such as school holidays.
The refurbishment comprised of the removal and replacement of the floor, wall and ceiling finishes, together with alterations to and partial replacement of, the existing mechanical and electrical installations to incorporate the new scanning machinery. Including the demolition/strip out of the Level 01 Travelex and install of new ceilings/lighting.
Fire Station Tech Block – The works comprised the refurbishment of the existing WC and kitchen area to create separate female and male WC facilities, including M&E alterations, new flooring, and decoration, as well as the installation of a new kitchen facility to the Staff Kitchen Area.
Staff Security Fast Track Lane – Refurbishment of the existing ground floor store and conference rooms to create a new fast track security lane for staff. The refurbishment comprised of the removal and replacement of the floor, wall and ceiling finishes, together with alterations to, and partial replacement of, the existing mechanical and electrical installation.
Level 01 Travelex and Soul & Grain – The works included the strip out of the existing Travelex counter to create additional space to the main concourse, as well as the installation of new ceilings, lighting and wall finishes. The project also included the strip out of the Level 02 (airside) Travelex, Pitta & Brew and Aerospa, in preparation for a new tenant to fit out ‘Soul and Grain’.
Counter Terrorism Police department – Refurbishment of existing facility on Level 1, works comprised of the strip out of the existing facility, installation of new partitions, ceilings, wall and floor finishes throughout including the alterations to mechanical and electrical services.

They were working alongside the third party equipment supplier who was behind programme and his erratic progress dictated, usually at short notice, when new sections could be released for the main works. As a result Brims demonstrated significant flexibility to maintain their programme and amend working practices to accommodate the smaller sections being available”.
