Brims Construction was appointed in 2014 by the North East Theatre Trust as Principal Contractor for the new LiveWorks Development on Newcastle’s Quayside. LiveWorks is a new £10 million capital scheme by Live Theatre to purchase and develop Quayside frontage and land and buildings adjacent to the theatre, to create new commercial office space, a new public park and a children and young people’s writing centre.The works comprised the design and construction of a new four storey, mixed use CAT A office development. The main office building consists of two floor plates of roughly 220sqm column-free space mirrored across a central core. Each floor plate receives natural light from multiple aspects. The Quayside frontage is sandstone clad for three storeys with a recessed mansard level above, which matches the adjacent Customs House building both in material and profile. The works also included extensive external works and performance area.
