The Gateshead Railway Club & Institute as it once was, was built in 1887 in association with the development of the Greenfield railway works, to provide a range of facilities for North East Railway Company’s employees. It has a ‘locally listed’ status and forms part of the local conservation area. Brims Construction was appointed as Principal Contractor for the conversion of the Railway Club into twenty five modern luxury apartments of varying sizes which included creating new mezzanine floors, a complete new third floor and a new roof structure to create a new fourth floor. The ground floor works involved demolition and opening up the space to create a shell for a new bar. The project also included extensive restoration to the external façade which included high quality replica timber sash windows, repairs to the brickwork and stonework, and new Welsh slate roof and lead work.
