Brims Construction was appointed as Principal Contractor in September 2011 by St John’s College for the construction of a new en-suite residential accommodation block. Rising student numbers saw Durham University’s St John’s College, at South Bailey, in the city, commission the building of a new en-suite residential accommodation building for 38 students. The new accommodation also required the College to expand their existing dining area with a new conservatory extension. The works comprised the demolition of the existing bay window to make way for the new brick and glazed extension. New paving and steps were provided in the rear garden. The accommodation block consisted of 36 no. standard en-suite student rooms and 2 no. accessible en-suite rooms along with communal kitchens, a plant room and landscaped gardens.
