Brims Construction was appointed as Principal Contractor in June 2016 by Travis Perkins (Properties) Ltd to construct a new Travis Perkins branch and trade units at Western Approach in South Shields.
Travis Perkins acquired the old BE Modern Factory in South Shields and following structural demolition of parts of the existing building and outbuildings works began to construct the new building shell to form the footprint of eight new trade units for Travis Perkins.
The works comprised the erection of a new steel portal frame and alterations to the existing portal frame, substructures and ground floor slabs; forming a new envelope complete with roof and wall cladding, new full height partitions to form new layout of the units and warehousing areas, installation of new jumbo stud walls, external masonry, glazed entrance screens, roller shutter and fire escape/personnel doors; division walls between adjoining units; alterations to and refinishing external paving and hard standings; alterations to the existing below ground drainage installation; soft landscaping. External works included a new concrete yard area, formation of new parking bays and protection and re-cladding of the existing.
All units were completed to a shell specification including providing live incoming services and foul pop ups flush with floor slab. The works also included alterations to the existing external foul and surface water drainage connected into mains sewers, providing incoming services including BT infrastructure and builders work in connection with external lighting, watering points and CCTV installations.
The works were adjacent to neighbouring properties and required vigilance and monitoring to ensure no disruption was caused during our works. The works were completed on time and within budget to the satisfaction of the Client.
