The Toffee Factory, Newcastle
Value: £5.0 million | Completed: November 2011
The Toffee Factory project is located on the edge of Newcastle City Centre positioned in what is set. to become a new urban quarter within the city.
Known as ‘The Toffee Factory’ because of the previous building owner being Maynards, the project involved the complete upgrade, refurbishment and remodeling of a building that had been damaged by fire over two decades ago and left to fall into a state of dereliction.
Following a delicate demolition process the existing brickwork structure was repaired and reinforced with a new structural steel frame before a new floor was constructed on the south wing of the building fronting the Glasshouse bridge.
Contemporary office space was then created in the remodelled building shell with a full fit out of the spaces including new mechanical and electrical installations, raised access flooring and modular office spaces.
The exterior of the building is enclosed imaginatively in various types of cladding and glazing and overlooks an extensive new landscaping scheme that is perched on the edge of the lower Ouseburn valley. > See all projects
